Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle is now in its third month of release in Japanese theaters, which is a huge win for Karasuno and all of the other teams. After the last weekend of March, the first anime film of the Haikyu! The final trilogy climbed to the 72nd spot in the Japanese box office rankings.

Haikyu! The Dumpster Battle has captured the attention of fans, selling over 6.1 million tickets and bringing in an incredible 8.75 billion yen (US$58.35 million) as of March 31, 2024.

Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle Surpasses 8 Billion Yen

Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle, the first installment of the Haikyu!! FINAL duology anime films, brought in 488 million yen (3.22 million USD) at the box office with 333,500 tickets over its seventh weekend (March 29–31), according to Kogyo Tsushinsha.

The movie held onto its second-place ranking from the previous week, despite an 8.1 percent decline from the previous weekend’s receipts.

The two Haikyu!! FINAL anime films are being produced by Toho Animation, with the animation being done by the skilled team at Production I.G.  On February 16, 2024, the first movie, Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle had its world premiere in Japan. The second movie does not yet have a scheduled release date.

Haikyu Movie Surpasses Pokemon

For many anime fans, their journey into the anime universe began with Pokémon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back. Since its debut in 1998, this iconic film held a significant box office record until just a few days ago when it was surpassed by the boys of Karasuno High School.

The news came with the updated box office figures for Haikyu the Movie: The Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump.

Fans were astonished to discover that this sports-themed film had reached a major milestone, raking in a remarkable 7.9 billion yen at the Japanese box office. This incredible success propelled Haikyu into Japan’s top 100 highest-grossing movies of all time, albeit displacing Pokémon to make way for its ascent.
